This company was founded in 1958 by Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus. It branched off from the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA), which Dr. Andrus founded in 1947. It is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works to provide power to people to choose how they live as they get older.
There are age requirements (two different memberships available):
- All people age 50 and older are eligible for full membership with AARP.
- If you are under 50, AARP has an associate membership available. As an associate member, you will still receive a Membership Kit along with your AARP card and you get all of the great benefits that come with membership that aren’t restricted by vendor offer requirements, including age-restricted insurance products. NOTICE: When you turn 50, your membership converts to a full membership automatically.
